GME Welcomes New Residents and Fellows

Published on Wednesday, July 24, 2024

The end of June always brings the bittersweet graduation of many of our institution’s residents and fellows. Some will stay here as fellows or faculty, some will leave the institution, but as they complete their training we wish them well.

But as with every summer, we are prepared to welcome our new interns and fellows, surely to leave their own footprint on campus in these coming years. On July 1st, 161 new interns and 35 fellows joined us, bringing our total complement to 695 residents and fellows and 43 visiting residents and fellows.

Our new trainees come from a diverse range of institutions, including 30 Allopathic schools, 12 Osteopathic schools, 18 International Medical Graduate institutions, and 8 dental schools. In addition, 67 of our starting residents are graduates of the School of Medicine at UMMC.

UMMC offers 24 residency programs and 45 fellowship programs, including dental training programs, ensuring a near campus wide presence of Graduate Medical trainees. These new Interns and Fellows contribute to UMMC’s healthcare delivery, research, and educational missions. Over the course of their years with us they will doubtlessly learn and grow in their knowledge and skill, and we look forward to benefitting from this journey in countless ways.

Please join us in welcoming these new trainees!
